Thank you to all of you who let me help you get organized this past year! There is nothing better than knowing you have helped to lift a weight off someone, making their everyday life a little better and easier. Clearing out physical stuff really does clear out the mental clutter too and I get to witness that and hear wonderful things like:
I feel liberated!
I'm so much lighter and freer!
It's like a dark cloud has been lifted off me.
I have a new lease on life now!
I can breathe again!
I published this post last year: "Make 2024 the year you free yourself from clutter!!"
I could really just say DITTO because it's a good summary of how to get organized, so I definitely recommend checking it out if you did not get decluttered last year and if you still have spaces that look like these:

Here are some useful everyday organizing tips to help maintain order.
Mail: go through it right away! I don't even bring junk mail or envelopes into my house...they go right in the recycling bin. Anything that can be handled quickly, deal with it now, even bills; have a tray/basket for any "to do" items.
Key Bowl ++: this is a life saver! If you don't have a spot for the things you lose the most, go make one now! It will save you so much time. I use a standing vintage wood yarn bowl and I keep my keys, wallet, scissors, a couple pens, hairclip, utility knife, some quick cash, a screwdriver, sunglasses, flashlight, nail clippers, gift cards, etc.
Roundup Run: grab a bin at the end of the day and round up all of the misplaced items that end up in the main rooms (living room, kitchen, stairs) and bring them to where they belong or even make it a chore for the kiddos!
Put Stuff Back: if you grab a jacket and hat, umbrella, boots, etc., put them back where they go instead of laying them on the couch. You use the hammer to hang up a picture, put it back in the tool chest, not on the table.
Empty Bags and Boxes ASAP: When you get home from shopping, empty the bags and put everything where it goes. When you get packages, open them and break down the boxes right away.
Papers: Many of my clients have an overload of documents that have been collecting for years because they don't know what they should keep/get rid of/shred. Here is a simple summary I use: https://www.snbonline.com/about/news/spring-cleaning-what-documents-to-keep-and-what-to-toss And if you are security conscious, personal shredders are quite affordable now and then you can keep up with this as the mail comes in.
Unsubscribe: Take a couple minutes and unsubscribe from any unwanted newsletters and start doing this as soon as they hit your inbox. And of course, do this with physical magazines and mail as well.
Donation Bin: Have a donation bin readily available where you can put things as soon as you decide you don't need them anymore.
The Right Tools: For the longest time I would use a chair for a stepstool and everytime I needed to reach something high, I would drag the chair across the house....this ended up wasting so much time, but I just didn't make getting a stool a priority. Now I have a stools all over the house! Having the proper tools keeps things efficient and orderly. So next time you realize you don't have the right tool for the job, stop what you're doing and go get it! (Or at least add it to your shopping list)
